Plot summary

Millionaire Rogachyev has got his diamonds stolen, which he has prepared for his daughter Nadya as dowry for the sum of 1500 roubles. Old Rogachyev decided to find them no matter what, and called the famous English detective Sherlock Holmes to Saint Petersburg. Someone named count Tashkensky wants to marry Nadya, but gets rejected. The count, seeing how he loses his influence in Rogachyev's house and willing to hold it, places his lover Palmira as Nadya's companion. Old Rogachyev falls madly in love with her. Sherlock Holmes arrives, does his sessions and with the help of modernised machines and x-rays resolves the countes intrigues. It appears that count Tashkensky is no one else but an escaped convict.
