Joss Ackland (born 29 february 1928) is a British actor who played various sherlockian roles on TV: he was Hon. Philip Green in 1965 in TV episode The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax of the TV series Sherlock Holmes with Douglas Wilmer as Sherlock Holmes ; he was the USA President in 1977 in TV movie The Strange Case of the End of Civilization as We Know It ; he was Jephro Rucastle in 1985 in TV episode The Copper Beeches of the TV series Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes ; and he was King Edward in 1992 in TV movie Incident at Victoria Falls with Christopher Lee as Sherlock Holmes.

He also played Grubber in 1973 in the TV episode The Mystery of the Amber Beads of the TV series The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes.
