My dear Smith

I can quite understand your doubts about the story. If I could modify it for your use in any way I should certainly do so. I feel that if I had been an Editor I should have hesitated over it. I hope to get off by the end of this month. I could not get a Commission but am going in part change of a 100 bed hospital. I won't do any writing or corresponding while there. I expect my time will be fully occupied & I don't want to mix things up. With every good wish for 1900.

I am
Yours very truly
A. Conan Doyle
