Nigel Bruce

Nigel Bruce (4 february 1895 - 8 october 1953) was a British actor who played Dr. Watson in 14 Sherlock Holmes movies with Basil Rathbone between 1939 and 1946.
He also played Watson on radio between 1939 and 1947 in The (New) Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories by Edith Meiser.
In 1953, Ouida Rathbone wrote a play Sherlock Holmes with her husband Basil Rathbone in the leading role. Unfortunately, Nigel Bruce was too ill and couldn't be his Watson again. He was replaced by Australian actor Jack Raine. Nigel Bruce died 2 days before the premiere of the play.
