Psychic Frauds

FROM SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE.

To the Editor of The Daily Mail.

Sir, — I see some allusion to Mr. Malcolm Bird's book, "My Psychic Adventures," under the above heading in your columns. Believe me, it is a complete misunderstanding.

I took Mr. Bird round myself to several seances, and in every single instance he admitted are complete honesty of the medium, both at the time in conversation and afterwards in print in the Scientific American. Therefore it is a misnomer to talk about psychic frauds.

Mr. Bird's position is that he admits all the phenomena — he could not do otherwise — but that he is not clear in his mind yet as to the psychic power which causes them. That is very different from fraud.
