Professor Challenger


The Professor George Edward Challenger, a British scientific, is a recurrent character created by Arthur Conan Doyle appearing in 2 short stories and 3 novels of science-fiction. The stories have been serialized in The Strand Magazine between april 1912 and january 1929, and collected in book after the last episode.

Irritator challengeri (1996)

In 1996, the dinosaur species Irritator challengeri was named after Professor Challenger. The original description explains the species name as: "from Professor Challenger, the fictitious hero and dinosaur discoverer of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World." The taxon was described by Martill, Cruickshank, Frey, Small and Clarke in the Journal of the Geological Society.
