A dinner in honour of the centenary of Edgar Allan Poe was given by the Authors' Club in the Hotel Metropole on Monday night with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the chair. Mr. Whitelaw Reid, the American ambassador, made a capital speech. Captain Poe, the senior representative of the family from which Poe was descended, was also present. The figures, from left to right, are : Mr. Whitelaw Reid, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mrs. Humphry Ward, and Captain Poe.
