The First Case
Miss Sherlock

The First Case (最初の事件) is the 1st episode of season 1 of the Japanese TV series Miss Sherlock, released on 27 april 2018, starring Yuko Takeuchi as "Sherlock" and Shihori Kanjiya as Wato Tachibana. 47 min.

Dr. Tachibana returns from Syria and is greeted by her mentor, Dr. Mizuno, when a remote bomb detonates in his stomach and he dies. Sherlock is asked by the Inspector Reimon to help on the case. Wanting to know the truth behind her mentor's death, Tachibana offers to help Sherlock who reluctantly agrees. Akiko Mizuno, the widow, had received an experimental health tracking pill and modified it to be a remote bomb. She intended to use it as revenge to kill a recently released drug addict who had killed her young daughter, Airi. When her husband discovers the large amount of money she spent donating to receive these pills, she is forced to kill him with a deadly pill. Before she can be arrested, she sets off the bomb pill in her own stomach. The hotel where Tachibana was temporarily staying, burns down and she is forced to move in and live with Sherlock.

  • When Wato first meets Sherlock, Sherlock is working in an hospital (like in STUD 88).
  • Miss Sherlock makes a deduction about Wato's past location (Syria) (vs Afghanistan in STUD 94).
  • The miniaturized bomb is called the "devil's foot" (reference to the original story of the same name The Devil's Foot).
  • Poldhu, the company manufacturing the micro-chips, is a reference to Poldhu Bay in Cornwall where Holmes and Watson investigate in DEVI (2).
  • Miss Sherlock's address number is 221B. The original Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson lived at 221B, Baker Street, London (STUD (182).
  • Miss Sherlock and Wato go to Club Criterion (reference to the Criterion Bar in STUD 21).
  • Kimie Hatano, the lodger of Sherlock, is the Mrs. Hudson archetype.
  • Sherlock's older brother, Kento, is working for the Cabinet Intelligence Office (like the original Mycroft Holmes in GREE 13).
