PORTSMOUTH F.C. v. ROYAL MARINES. — This Association match was played at Forton on Saturday, and was won by the Borough Club by six goals to love. The visitors had the benefit of the wind in the first half, but the Marines fought so pluckily that 20 minutes elapsed before a point was registered, out the civilians succeeded in kicking three goals before ends were changed, and added another three in the second half, exclusive of a disputed one obtained by Huddy, the umpires differing in their decision. The goals wore kicked by Godfrey (2), Smith (2), Huddy (1), and one off on of the Marines' backs. For the Club, which was not playing its full strength, Huddy, Godfrey, and Smith distinguished themselves amongst the forwards, Poole was invaluable at half back, and the full backs did what worn devolved upon them satisfactorily, [[Arthur Conan Doyle|A. C. Smith]] once saving the goal by a fine running kick. The Marines have decidedly improved in their play, and have the making in them of a good Association team, but they were at a disadvantage by reason of the superior combined play of their ooponents.
