HANTS COUNTY CHALLENGE CUP. — WINCHESTER v. PORTSMOUTH. — Some heavy scoring was witnessed at Southampton yesterday on the continuance of the above encounter in the final round for the possession of the County Cup. Overnight Portsmouth had scored 154 for seven wickets, in response to a first innings by Winchester of 198. An hour's play sufficed to finish the innings yesterday morning, the total being carried to 188. Starting with an advance of 10, Winchester treated their opponents to a deal of leather hunting, and in four hours and a half had amassed 376 runs. Out of this number Richards scored 119 in fine style, and Vanderbyl's 95 was the result of brilliant cricket. At the conclusion of the Winchester innings stumps were drawn for the day, Portsmouth being left with 387 to get to win. Present score:—
