This match, which was played on Tuesday on the United Service (Officers) Ground Portsmouth, was productive of considerable interest as the struggle for victory on the first innings drew to a close. The regimental team had made 79, and on the last man of the Portsmouth's side taking the bat eleven runs were required to effect a tie. The winning hit by Mr. Pate (a pretty and clean drive for four to the rear of the lent in the eastern corner) was hailed with applause and the regiment were eventually beaten by 15 runs. The losers, however, made a big score in the second innings, as the subjoined details will show:—
