TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES.

Sir, — The argument of "American Woman" that there should be no divorce for the British woman married to a German because the parties have vowed fidelity to each other would be valid if no such thing as divorce existed. Since, however, the civil code of every civilized nation recognizes that circumstances may arise which dissolve the contract, we have to determine whether the fact that these women have been placed in so terrible and unnatural a position, mated with the enemy and alienated among their own kind, is not a good reason for such dissolution.
