SALE IN NEW YORK NEXT WEEK.

An extraordinary series of the MSS. of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is to be sold at auction next Wednesday by the American Art Association, at 30, East Fifty-seventh-street, New York, to which they have been consigned through the Paget Literary Agency of that city. They are over twenty in number and include some of his most important stories, while the admirable manner in which they are described will make the sale catalogue a valuable item in any bibliographical account of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work.

The MS. of "Micah Clarke" is entirely in the hand of the author, and extends to 648 pages, with corrections and cancellations. The MS. of "Rodney Stone" is also in the author's autograph, and covers 530 pages. There are also the MSS. of "The Refugees," on 369 pages, of two of the Sherlock Holmes series, "The Adventure of the Missing Three-Quarter" (about eight thousand words), and "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton," about 6.800 words; and among the others, "A Shadow Before," "The Green Flag, "The King of the Foxes," "The Lost Galley," "The Leather Funnel," "Sir Nigel," "An Iconoclast," "The Coming of the Huns," and "The Fall of Lord Barrymore."

Each of the MSS. is bound in cloth, and the dates of conposition appear to range from 1888, when "Micah Clarke" was first published, to within the last two or three years, thus practically covering nearly the whole of the author's literary career. There can be no doubt that this collection is, as the auctioneers claim, the most important one of the MSS. of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle over offered.
