'''From Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.'''

''To the Editor of the "Evening Standard."''

Sir, — In Dean Inge's interesting article on "Ghosts and Magic," he says that Huxley and Tyndall, had they returned to life, would be shocked to find men of science who believed in necromancy, which is the Dean's polite description of Spiritualism.

But why should they be surprised or shocked when in their own day Crooke cod Wallace, men as eminent as themselves, had the same "delusion"? I think that in every generation it will be found that those who take the trouble to examine the facts will endorse them, while those who, like the Dean, have no experience will continue to express contemptuous surprise.
