The second day's play in this match was commenced at Tavistock on Saturday morning. Devon had begun batting on the previous evening and compiled 10 for the loss of no wickets. Continuing their innings, Martin was soon dismissed for 3, but Francis played splendid cricket, hitting very freely. The other batsmen, with the exception of Cruwys (10) and Roe (13) made a very poor show, and the side were out for 112 against M.C.C. 222. Francis made 48 and was the only batsman at all at home with the bowling of Hearne, Gerson, and Robinson. Devon followed on, and fared very much worse than in their first attempt. Brunskill did well, obtaining twenty, but received no assistance from the other batsmen, who formed a regular procession to and from the wickets, Gerson and Robinson being simply unplayable, and M.C.C. secured a very easy victory.
