This match was concluded at the Saffrons, Eastbourne, yesterday. The visitors carried their overnight score of 221 for seven wickets to 239, and left off with a lead of 86. Wheeler took six wickets for 61 and Bush two for 50. Eastbourne's second venture was more productive than their initial essay, but after knocking up 248 for four, chiefly by the agency of G. Cuming and C. Gilbert, rain interrupted play, and on the resumption Ayres and Nightingale made sad havoc with the remaining players, the last seven wickets realising but 13 runs. The wicket had naturally been greatly affected by the rain, but the bowling of the teen named was nevertheless very creditable. Ayres, taking the innings through, captured six wickets for 72, and Nightingale three for 7. Reigate played out time, but had only a quarter of an hour at their disposal, the match ending in a draw.
