TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES.

Sir, — I do not think that England is likely to be frightened off from doing her duty to the natives of the Congo by the threats of your anonymous Belgian correspondent. As to his general accusations of inaccuracy, I hope within a week or two to have a small book published which will give chapter and verse for every statement I have made. His remarks about the formation of a new Belgian Society for the Protection of the Natives would cause any one to smile who knows the history of the previous bodies of this nature and the results which have sprung from them. I can assure him, finally, that a great surprise is awaiting him and his countrymen if they treat lightly the deep feeling upon the question which is growing up in this country.

Yours truly,
