Morey]], one of the screen&#039;s oldest artists. He speaks with an American accent, but no one will worry about his nationality. On the other hand, the American accent of [[Betty Lawford]] as [[Dr. Watson]]&#039;s daughter is rather disconcerting. She is one of the weak spots in the picture, but her part is not very important or long.<br /> <br /> The picture ends with [[Sherlock Holmes|Holmes]] taking off a dummy thumb with which he had saved himself from being poisoned by an ingenious cigarette case belonging to Moriarty; when the lid opened a needle containing a deadly poison scratched the victim&#039;s thumb. His comment to Watson is, &quot;Elementary, my dear Watson, elementary.&quot; And that is what the picture is in crime detection as compared with some of [[Arthur Conan Doyle|Conan Doyle]]&#039;s work. But it is very good fun nevertheless.<br /> <br /> L.
