On Bank Holiday the Haslemere team met a strong eleven got together by [[Arthur Conan Doyle|Sir A. Conan Doyle]], the match being played on the Recreation Ground. Haslemere took first knock, and put together a score of 87. The visiting team included, besides its famous captain, other well-known authors in the persons of Mr. J. C. Smith and Mr. [[Ernest W. Hornung|E. W. Hornung]]. In the visitors' total of 188 the best scores were Mr. V. Gillett's 79, [[Arthur Conan Doyle|Sir Arthur]]'s 48 and Mr. Snaith's 29. In their second innings Haslemere made 44 for seven wickets. The visiting eleven thus won by 101 runs. <br />
