Le Mystère de la Mary Celeste (The Mystery of the Mary Celeste) is a French documentary-fiction, 3rd episode of the TV series Énigmes de l'histoire (Enigmas of History), aired on 10 july 1956 on O.R.T.F., with Gaston Rey as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. 83 minutes.

The documentary explores the mystery of the Mary Celeste, a barque which has been found in 1862 with no passengers or crew onboard... Several hypothesis are played by actors and discussed by historians and naval experts.

In a fictional scene, the Strand Magazine editor gather Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H. G Wells, and two other authors (Mr. Morrison and Mr. Roberts) to expose their hypothesis on the case. Conan Doyle tells that the "mad" cook of the ship poisoned all the crew... a statement which has nothing to do with what Conan Doyle ever wrote in real life. The documentary not even refer to Conan Doyle's J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement (1884) which, at the time, has been taken by journalists for a real account of what happened.

After the hypothesis they present the Laurence J. Keating version which was published in 1929 as The Great Mary Celeste Hoax (The Houghton Mifflin Co., Boston, USA). Keating found a survivor of the Mary Celeste, Pemberton, the cook which gave a different version of the story...
