This letter was written by [[Arthur Conan Doyle]] on 16 january 1911 from Windlesham, Crowborough.

John Churton Collins (1848-1908) was a British literary critic, which was fond of Sherlock Holmes stories.

Sir,

Your letter is as series of inaccuracies mixed up with a good deal of rudeness, but so far as it all regards myself I can disregard such nonsense. When however you describe the late Professor Churton Collins, a man whose boots your are not worthy to blacken, as a "miserable wretch" you only degrade yourself in the eyes of those who knew him and hold his memory in esteem.

Yours faithfully

A. Conan Doyle
