Dear Cumming Walters<br />
<br />
The 'Chris' was my mistake & exonerates me. It was written Cris in the script. Mrs von Reuter had read the fragment 30 years ago but could not normally remember the plot or any name save Drood.<br />
<br />
Chrisparkle says earnestly to Neville once that he will certainly be cleared. Also Chris went in an inexplicable way to the Weir to yet the watch. Young Von Reuter who has a class A brain has read the book, since the seance, and his suspicions aroused by that huge cupboard of crisparkles which is so fully described. It is mentioned that anyone who protruded half their body into the cupboard came out feeling all the better. This points possibly to fresh air somewhere behind the cupboard — a hiding place.<br />
