Very much the same team of the M.C.C. as appeared at the Grammar School on Wednesday, engaged the Modern School on Thursday. The School batted first, but there were four wickets down of 12. Then stands were made for the next two, the fifth going down at 96, and sixth at 160. The whole side were out for 207, into which N. Oliver contributed 106 by ...ant cricket. He was deceived by a false ... of "out," and was stumped, whilst ... outside the crease. He hit 11 fours, 14 threes, and 10 twos. M.C.C. passed the School's total for a loss of five wicket, and had scored 271 for six when stumps were down. Butcher, who made a century on the previous day, scored 126 not out, and Hill 96. Murrell, the slogger, who made 141 against the Grammar School, was out for a single, and [[Arthur Conan Doyle|Conan Doyle]] made 15. The fielding of the Modern School was remarkably good.
