[[Arthur Conan Doyle]] had financed the ROC cycle company (founded by A. W. Wall) which had manufactured one of his early motorcycle (see photo). He was also very interested in the Auto-Wheel motor that could be attached to a bicycle (see [[Cycling]]).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 1903, he expressed the [[Letter about Commercial Travellers Motor Cycle (26 may 1903)|idea]] that some motor cycle firm should prepare a machine &amp;amp; trailer expressly for Commercial Travellers. In 1905, he entered his ROC motorcycle in the International motor-cycle race in Dourdan (France). his bike was driven by T. Messier, but unfortunately Tessier did not wished to participate to the eliminatory race at the last minute (see [[Motor Cycle Race|report]]).&lt;br /&gt;
