A new [[Merely Mary Ann (play 1903-1904)|play]] by Mr. Zangwill must always be a dramatic event of profound interest, so distinguished a thinker, so vivid an imaginative writer, is the author of ''Children of the Ghetto''. The public, however, were not admitted in any great numbers to the performance that took place at Wallingford the other day, of which I give the programme. It will be seen that the cast included Mr. Jerome K. Jerome and [[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle]] as well as Mr. Zangwill, although I believe that [[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle]] did not turn up to take the part of the Rev. Samuel Smedge. Let us hope that we shall soon see Mr. Zangwill's play on the London stage.
