Nigel Bruce (4 february 1895 - 8 october 1953) was a British actor who played [[Dr. Watson]] in 14 [[Sherlock Holmes]] movies with [[Basil Rathbone]] between 1939 and 1946.<br />

He also played Watson on radio between 1939 and 1947 in [[The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (radio 1939-1946)|The (New) Adventures of Sherlock Holmes]], the adaptation of the [[Arthur Conan Doyle]]'s [[Sherlock Holmes]] stories by [[Edith Meiser]].<br />

In 1953, Ouida Rathbone wrote a play [[Sherlock Holmes (play 1953)|Sherlock Holmes]] with her husband [[Basil Rathbone]] in the leading role. Unfortunately, Nigel Bruce was too ill and couldn't be his Watson again. He was replaced by Australian actor [[Jack Raine]]. Nigel Bruce died 2 days before the premiere of the play. <br />
