[[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle]], who celebrated his sixty-second birthday yesterday, is a modest man, but he may justly assume that his first schoolmaster was given to under-statement. When [[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle|Sir Arthur]] was leaving school this pessimist called him into the presence and remarked: "Doyle, I have known you now for seven years, and I know you thoroughly. I have to tell you that you will never come to any good." Far more helpful was a later teacher, [[Joseph Bell|Dr. James Bell]] <ref>[[Joseph Bell|Dr. Joseph Bell]]</ref>, under whom [[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle|Doyle]] studied medicine at Edinburgh, and from whom, I believe, he derived the inspiration of [[Sherlock Holmes]].<br />
