Richard Marius Joseph Greene (25 august 1918 - 1 june 1985) was an actor, best known for the role of Robin Hood in the eponymous television series (series where, among other sherlockian actors Alan Wheatley played the Sheriff of Nottingham, Archie Duncan played Little John and Ronald Howard played Will Scarlet).

In 1939, he played Sir Henry Baskerville in the movie The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sidney Lanfield with Basil Rathbone (Sherlock Holmes). At this time, the production trusted Richard Greene for the promotion of the film. On the movie poster, the name of the young romantic stands above that of Rathbone. This should never happen again for the thirteen sherlockian movies who followed, Rathbone became the undisputed star, the real incarnation of Sherlock Holmes on the screens and the waves of the 1940s.

In 1979, Richard Greene has returned to the sherlockian universe in the role of Lord Brompton in the episode The Case of the Purloined Letter in the television series Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson with Geoffrey Whitehead (Sherlock Holmes) and Donald Pickering (Watson).

Note that in 1968 and 1969, he played Nayland Smith (very close to the character of Sherlock Holmes) in 'The Blood of Fu Manchu and The Castle of Fu Manchu, with Christopher Lee (another sherlockian star).
