London spiritualists are concentrating on an effort to establish a Spiritualist Church in Central London. At the first of a series of Sunday evening services held on Sunday in the Old County Hall, Spring Gardens, [[Sir Arthur Conan Doyle|SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE]], who presided, spoke of spiritualism as "the most enormous religious revival which has struck the world in the last 2,000 years," and said that occasion would one day be historical.

Spiritualism, he continued, was an influence which could save Europe and the world from disaster. History was repeating itself in the way in which the movement. like Christianity, had taken root first among the artisan class. Only the centuries to come would be able to understand the significance of what was now happening. The Church had thrown out Spiritualism; but this church they were starting would be a half-way house between Spiritualism and the Church of England.
