	Sir, — Your reviewer in his courteous review of my "1915" volume remarks that I see the trees more clearly than the wood, or, in other words, detail more clearly than large effects. It is very possible that he is right. I would point out, however, as an example of the same tendency that he has devoted an appreciable part of his review to my use of the word "mutual" but has omitted to notice that I am the first writer who, with no official aid of any kind, has discerned and set forth in its battalions, brigades, divisions, and corps the British battle line in two of the greatest battles we have ever fought.
