	The coming year or so will see, one suspects, considerable activity on the Doylean and Sherlockian front, brought about by the centenary of the publication of The Hound of the Baskervilles. The Arthur Conan Doyle Society is pleased to be playing a part in the celebrations with its involvement in FOOTPRINTS OF THE HOUND, a major celebration being planned to take place in Toronto in October 2001. A preliminary advertisement appears elsewhere in this issue, and developments will be reported in future issues of ACD. Professor Christopher Frayling, Rector of the Royal College of Art in London, and presenter of the BBC series Nightmare: The Birth of Horror-which included a programme devoted to The Hound of the Baskervilles — has already accepted an invitation to speak at the event; and there will be many other worthwhile attractions, too-including, it is hoped, manuscript material and rare artwork. Make a date in your diary now — FOOTPRINTS OF THE HOUND is an event you will not want to miss. And speaking of contributors leads me to my final point: after eleven years, it becomes no easier to obtain the material required to keep ACD alive. There is no doubt that the material is out there — or that there are people able to present it in the form of journal articles — but, all too often, promises come to naught and we are left struggling to gather worthwhile articles to ensure that the Journal survives. If you care for ACD, and wish to see its continuing publication, you may like to ask yourself if there isn't something you, too, should be doing.
