The play is adapted from [[Arthur Conan Doyle]]'s short story : [[The Nightmare Room]] (1921). It is different from the original. In Conan Doyle's story, the conflict is between two men over a famous dancer; in Goodrum's version, it becomes two women, Catherine and Helen, trapped in a locked room and forced into a deadly game involving poison to settle their rivalry over a film star.
