Founded by Thomas Rhodes Armitage, a doctor who suffered from eyesight problems. In 1868 Dr. Armitage founded the organisation known as the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;British and Foreign Society for Improving Embossed Literature for the Blind&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. This later became the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;British and Foreign Blind Association&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. In 1875 Her Majesty Queen Victoria became the organisation&amp;#039;s first patron.&lt;br /&gt;
