Teams repreeenting these two Clubs met on the Cricket Field on Monday and Tuesday. This fixture is usually one of the most interesting in the Gentlemen's list, but unfortunately this year the game was spoiled by the weather. Twelve men were played on either side. The M.C.C. team included several old county professional cricketers, and A. C. S. Glover, who plays regularly for the Gentlemen, also played for them. [[Arthur Conan Doyle|Sir A. Conan Doyle]] assisted the visitors, but failed in both innings. The M.C.C. batted first, and out of a total of 194 runs A. C. S. Glover contributed 95 — more than half the number actually scored by the bat. Hill and Arlington took all the wickets, the former securing 6 for 65 runs, and the latter 5 for 64. The Gentlemen fared worse, and were all dismissed for the poor total of 108. Arlington, who has made so many runs for Stratford, failed with the bat, and Hawkins, Cove-Jones, and Mayfield alone, faced the bowling with any confidence. Brown played havoc with the Gentlemen, taking 10 wickets, for 42 runs. The M.C.C. went in a second time, and A. C. S Glover again showed splendid form, scoring 60 runs before he was caught out. After his dismissal the other men were cheaply disposed of Smith-Turberville being the only one to make any serious resistance, and the innings closed for 138. Arlington bowled well, and came out with the good analysis of 7 wickets for 55 runs. Rain afterwards fell, and, as it gave no indication of clearing of stumps were drawn.
