William H. Powell (29 july 1892 - 5 march 1984) was an American actor who played Forman Wells in 1922 in the movie [[Sherlock Holmes (movie 1922)|Sherlock Holmes]] (released in UK as [[Sherlock Holmes (movie 1922)|Moriarty]]) with [[John Barrymore (actor)|John Barrymore]] as [[Sherlock Holmes]]. It was his first role in a movie.<br />

In 1930, he also played Philo Vance in the "Murder Will Out" sequence of the movie [[Paramount on Parade]] with [[Clive Brook]] as [[Sherlock Holmes]].<br />
