Шерлокъ Хольмсъ въ Петербургѣ (Sherlock Holmes in Saint Petersburg) is a Russian play in 3 acts performed at Ekaterininsky Theater (Saint Petersburg, Russia) between november-december 1906, starring N. G. Seversky as Sherlock Holmes.



Plot summary

Act one: in the house of count Slobodsky, a blue diamond jewellery that belonged to the countess has disappeared. A search turned out useless, and the count decided to call the famous detective Sherlock Holmes. He is greeted at the Warsaw train station. A bunch of guys pass by. Baron von Zet appears - he has a meeting with the countess. It appears that baron von Zet is involved with the jewellery's disappearance: the countess gave it to him to pay off her the huge cards' debt. A sudden appearance of Sherlock Holmes, who has already been in Saint Petersburg for a week.

Act two: a ball-mascarade held by count Slobodsky. Sherlock Holmes’ sessions. He deduces that the jewellery is hidden in the mansion. He goes through a number of disguises and that way proves his ideas. In order to find out the secret spot, he simulates a fire. The unmasked baron Zet orders his accomplices to kill Sherlock. The attempt is unsuccessful. During the fire the jewellery is found: the secret was accidentally disclosed by the countess herself. But it appears that the diamonds were taken out and replaced by fake ones.

Act three: baron Zet goes to a thieves' resort "Red Pub". The diamons are held there in moneylender Owl's hands. In order to get money from the countess, baron calls her into the pub to get the diamonds. Sherlock in disguise gets into the pub, solves all baron's crimes and hands him over to police, returning the diamonds back to their owner.
