Afghanistan is a country located at the crossroads of Central Asia and South Asia. It is bordered by Pakistan to the east and south, Iran to the west, Turkmenistan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north, Tajikistan to the northeast, and China to the northeast and east.

In the Sherlock Holmes stories

  • A Study in Scarlet (1887) : Dr. Watson has been in Afghanistan during the war where he was severely wounded at the Battle of Maiwand. When Sherlock Holmes met him, he did his famous deduction « You have been in Afghanistan, I perceive. » (STUD, 94)
