Friends of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection logo

The Friends of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection is an independent group that works closely with the Toronto Public Library to support the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection.

Their objectives are:

  • To work with the Library to help maintain and enhance the ACD Collection and its services to the public and, in consultation with the Library's staff, to advise on issues pertaining to the Collection.
  • To raise funds for special acquisitions for the ACD Collection, for the improvement of the physical facilities and for other special projects.
  • To promote and carry out programs and activities designed to raise awareness of the existence and contents of the ACD Collection and to provide educational activities for members.
  • To act as a resource for the ACD Collection and private collections in Canada and elsewhere, in consultation with the Library staff.
  • To work cooperatively with The Bootmakers of Toronto and other organizations dedicated to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his works

Membership

You can become a Friend of the Arthur Conan Doyle at acdfriends.org/joinup.html by giving an annual donation. There are four levels of donations:

  • Hudson : $35-49
  • Watson : $50-99
  • Mycroft : $100-249
  • Sherlock : $250+

You will receive their journal [#The_Magic_Door The Magic Door], and a copy of their annual Cameron Hollyer Memorial Lecture publication.


Publications

The Magic Door

The Magic Door is the journal of The Friends of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection, published three times a year, including articles about the Collection and news about Friends' special events. The publication's name comes from the title of a volume of Conan Doyle's essays about his favourite authors: Through the Magic Door.

Note that Vol. 1 Issue 3 and Volume 5 Issue 3 were never published.
