George Desylla Zucco (11 january 1888 - 28 may 1960) was a British actor and director, who played Professor Moriarty in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in 1939 with Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. Production had originally thought about actor Lionel Atwill for the role, whom was James Mortimer in the previous movie (The Hound of the Baskervilles), but they preferred Zucco. Atwill will have his "revenge" in 1942 as he will be Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon. In the same year 1943, George Zucco, will be the villain again, but as Heinrich Hinckel aka Richard Stanley in Sherlock Holmes in Washington with Basil Rathbone again.

In 1938, Zucco also played Dr. Waxton (with X, but not related to Watson) in Vacation from Love with Reginald Owen.
