To the Editor of The Daily Mail.
Sir, — In reply to Mr. Hubert Wales's letter, with its cheap and unnecessary personalities, may I say that so long as I and others who were present are convinced that, after making allowance for every possible contingency, the evidence is quite overpowering, who is he who, without being present, ventures to contradict us?
It is part of that mental arrogance with which we are continually confronted.

This controversy has arisen out of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's statement at a recent luncheon that "We have spoken to them " (people who have died) "direct, as we did when they were in this world."
