Lawrence L. Lynch
From The Arthur Conan Doyle Encyclopedia
Lawrence L. Lynch was the pen name of Emily Medora Murdock Van Deventer (16 january 1853 - 1914) an American writer. At the time, it was not convenient for women to write mystery/crime novels so she published under the name of her husband, Lawrence L. Lynch. In 1887, she was married with Dr. Abraham Van Deventer but she kept her first pen name. She was a prolific writer, producing more than 20 novels in 16 years, between 1896 and 1912.
Her detective characters were: Francis Ferrars (Shadowed by Three, The Last Stroke, The Lost Witness, ...), Lionel Payne (Madeline Payne, the Detective's Daughter).
In 1906, The Topeka State Journal mentioned her as The American Conan Doyle in a review of her novel The Doverfields' Diamonds.
