This letter was written by Arthur Conan Doyle, from Undershaw, Hindhead, between 1897 and 1900, to an unknown recipient.

He wrote about the title of his short story The Début of Bimbashi Joyce published in 1900 in the Punch.

Letter

I write to you because I might not catch Burnand. Perhaps "The Coming of the Bimbashi" would be a better title. I used 'Debut' because I don't know an equivalent but certainly it should have an accent. The omission was ignorance and carelessness not design.

Best wishes for the new member.
