This letter was written between 1897 and 1900 [1] by Arthur Conan Doyle probably from Undershaw, Hindhead, to an unknown recipient.

He wrote about the title of his short story The Début of Bimbashi Joyce published in 1900 in the Punch.

Letter

I write to you because I might not catch Burnand. Perhaps "The Coming of the Bimbashi" would be a better title. I used 'Debut' because I don't know an equivalent but certainly it should have an accent. The omission was ignorance and carelessness not design.

Best wishes for the new member.

  1. If the letter was written from Undershaw the date is from 1897 to 1907, but Conan Doyle wrote about the title of his short story The Début of Bimbashi Joyce published in 1900.
