Letter

Dear Lord Gorell

I quite understand about the "ad."

Yes, we published for Miss Puxley. We began at 9d but found that the printing worked out at over 7d and when changes were made there was no profit at all. We then in the second edition went to 1/. There can have been 3 limited editions, and I think the lady has had £10 or £12 in royalties which represents a good deal in a shilling book. I explain this to you as I have a sort of feeling that, like so many ladies in business, she feels aggrieved. She has not actually said so, but I sense this.

Yours sincerely
A. Conan Doyle
