This letter was written by Arthur Conan Doyle from Undershaw, Hindhead, Haslemere, to Private Martin Hanlon of the City of London Volunteers. Undated.

My dear Hanlon

Your letter was a real pleasure for I have often longed to know how you got through your terrible illness. There was never a man so near death. Is it true that you are recommended for the V.C.? [1] Splendid! With all good wishes.

Yours very truly
A Conan Doyle.
