Norwood v. The Idlers

The Norwood News (10 september 1892, p. 6)

Norwood v. The Idlers (12 a side). — An interesting match was played on Wednesday last, in miserable weather, when Dr. Conan Doyle brought a team composed of literary and artistic contributors to the Idler magazine. Some good cricket was shown, notwithstanding that rain kept on all the afternoon. Amongst the visitors were A. H. Wood, who plays for Hampshire; B. A. Clarke, of Hornsey; and J. B. Hatt, of West of Scotland fame. J. R. Goold played a fine innings of 74 not out, going in first for Norwood and carrying his bat through the innings. We noticed that the popular author of "Three Men in a Boat" was officiating as scorer for the Idlers. Score:—
