Robert Stephens

Robert Stephens (14 july 1931 - 12 november 1995) was a British actor and producer who played Sherlock Holmes in 1970, in Billy Wilder's film The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes with Colin Blakely (Watson), Geneviève Page (Gabrielle Valladon) and Christopher Lee (Mycroft Holmes). He also performed Sherlock Holmes 22 times on stage with Ronald Bishop (Watson) in the adaptation of William Gillette's play between 14 and 31 january 1976 in Toronto. He was replaced by Leonard Nimoy for the beginning of the American tour between february and june 1976.
