Sir Arthur and Lady Conan Doyle Decorated by the Sultan

This article published in the Court Circular section of The Times on 4 november 1907 announced the decoration received by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the Order of the Medjidie) and his wife Lady Conan Doyle (the Order of Nichan-I-Chefakat) from the Ottoman Grand Sultan Abdul Hammid II during their honeymoon in Constantinople.

Sir Arthur and Lady Conan Doyle, who are paying a short visit to Constantinople, attended the Selamlik on Friday. The Sultan decorated Sir Arthur with the second class of the Medjidieh, an Lady Conan Doyle with the second class of the Nichan-i-Chefakat, thus testifying, says a Reuter telegram, to the interest taken by his Majesty in English literature.
