Mr Bell and Mr Doyle: The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes is the pilot TV movie of the Murder Rooms: Mysteries of the Real Sherlock Holmes series produced by BBC, The Television Production Company and WGBH, aired in 2000. Starring Ian Richardson as Dr. Joseph Bell and Robin Laing as Arthur Conan Doyle.

The series name in the pilot was Mr Bell and Mr Doyle instead Murder Rooms.

Plot summary

Following the fictional death of Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle finds himself reflecting on his old friendship with Dr. Joseph Bell, as well as his long-gone romance with fellow student Elspeth Scott, the victim of a killer he and Bell failed to capture.
