The Lost World (1992)

The Lost World is a Canadian/American TV movie produced by Harmony Gold Pictures (in association with Silvio Berlusconi Communications) released on 25 december 2001 starring John Rhys-Davies as Professor Challenger. 99 minutes.

The movie is an adaptation of the Conan Doyle's novel: The Lost World (1912).

The movie follows the general plot of the original story but with some differences:

  • The expedition goes to Africa (instead of South America).
  • The action takes place in 1920 (instead 1912).
  • Gladys Hungerton is missing, thus Malone doesn't join the adventure to impress his fiancée.
  • Lord John Roxton is replaced by a woman, Jenny Nielson.
  • Jim, a boy, and Malu, a native young girl, are joining the expedition team (they are not in the original story).
  • Natives on the plateau are not neanderthal-like ape-men but African tribes.

The budget should be low as we only see the heads of the dinosaurs and they are quite cheap-looking.

Later on the same year, there was a sequel: Return to the Lost World with same cast but has nothing to do with the Conan Doyle's novel.
